Founded in 2023, C-kers is a student organization focused on anthropology, sociology, and ethnic minority cultures. We explore traditional Chinese culture and minority cultures through both academic discussion and hands-on activities. We also create DIY products inspired by traditional cultural forms, with proceeds from our school fairs largely donated to charities supporting the preservation of minority cultures.
Club Activities
Our weekly sessions explore topics in anthropology, sociology, social fieldwork, and cultural arts. Some sessions take the form of presentations and discussions, while others focus on hands-on activities such as exploring the principles behind traditional instruments, tea culture, or puppet design.
Studying a culture intellectually and engaging with its material or artistic forms create different kinds of understanding, and together they have made me more attentive to the complexity behind cultural traditions.
Culture Festival
I have helped organize and participate in multiple editions of our school's Culture Festival. We often combine art, religion, mythology, natural science, and technology to create interactive experiences for students. For example, we have used garden-festival formats and immersive theater to explore the origins of civilizations and cultural mythology; designed constellation charts to explore the intersection of religion, science, and art; and collaborated with the dance, music, and fashion design clubs to present the evolution of ancient Chinese architecture through visual and auditory experiences.
