The art of playing together.

Ensembles, rehearsals, and a shared sense of belonging.

FIELD NOTES / RSO

Resonance Symphony Orchestra

Resonance Symphony Orchestra (RSO) is my school's student-led orchestra, officially established in 2023. I have been part of the orchestra for three years and currently serve as concertmaster, soloist, and a core member. We perform a wide range of repertoire, from symphonic and chamber music to other genres, with more than 100 students and teachers attending our annual concerts. We also perform at the school's largest annual charity event and organize monthly Chamberwave lunchtime concerts, where we move beyond classical music to explore genres such as jazz and rock.

RSO is more than a school club to me. It is a musician community. Weekly—and sometimes daily—rehearsals have created a strong sense of connection among us. Beyond our shared love of music, we share a desire to contribute, create something together, and improve alongside one another.

FIELD NOTES / UNRESTRAINED

Unrestrained Orchestra

Unrestrained Orchestra is an inter-school orchestra that brings together teenage musicians from across China, alongside some members who have since gone on to attend universities in the United States. We hold annual concerts in August and perform classical repertoire together.

Being part of an ensemble that crosses schools, cities, and different stages of life has given me a broader sense of what a musical community can look like. It has also allowed me to meet young musicians beyond my immediate school environment and learn from their different experiences and perspectives.
